Serve Where You're NEEDED

Pursue and The Pig

Maybe you’ve already put two + two together and realized that the “PIG OUT” Pig Roast held way back in October was a direct result of Pursue. How so? This wonderful fellowship didn’t just happen! It took the (then) newly-formed Events Team to actually plan and pull it off (with major help from the NE community and the Filson family), and it took the also newly-formed Communication Team to make sure everyone knew about it. Those teams worked like crazy, and the result was hundreds of “satisfied customers.”

You may recall, when PURSUE was launched last September there were three key areas where members were encouraged to pursue God’s purpose for them within the body: Sunday Morning Service, Communication and Events. We thought you’d like an update on how many folks became involved, who is leading which teams and what’s next for Pursue. Here you go.

How many? In that one Sunday where PURSUE was explained, there were 153 individuals who made a commitment to be active in their chosen PURSUE area. In addition, there were another 27 individuals who needed more information. As you might imagine, keeping Sunday Services running smoothly every week, week-in and week-out, requires a lot of people. There were 66 volunteers for Sunday Services, and honestly we could use a lot more. The other two areas of interest, Communication and Events, were split about evenly for volunteers. Plus, another 66 people indicated they are already serving in some kind of ministry. If you signed up for either Communication or Events teams and no one has called you for help, please don’t give up! We learned pretty quickly that because “events” are driving the need for communication, and since there are limited events there are also limited possibilities for communication. It will take a while for this process to ramp up.

Who's Who?

Each Community has team leaders dedicated to each of the three PURSUE areas.  They are:

Northeast:

+  Sunday AM Service: Doug & Pam Lawler and John & Carol Carroll

+  Communication: Lyne MacMahon and Tracy Maymon

+  Event Planning: Edie Hiatt and Teresa Howard

Northwest:

+  Sunday AM Service: Beata Lehman

   +  Communication: Tara McColgin

   +  Event Planning: Myra Wilson

Southeast:

+ Sunday AM Service: Craig Sharpe and Chris Carvin

   + Communication: Judi Chambers

   + Event Planning: Dana Hueftle

Southwest:

+ Sunday AM Service: Cynthia Schafer

   + Communication: Nancy Imhoff

+ Event Planning: Julia Theriot and Tanya Barmore

The Pursue initiative is growing strong!  If you are new to Central or would like a refresher, Pursue is the "structure" at Central by which you can more fully pursue God's purposes through you (there is additional detail below).  In your Community there is something every individual can do to serve the needs of the body at Central.  The initial phase of Pursue is focused on three key areas:

Sunday Morning Service
Communication
Events

If you have not committed to pursue your role in serving the body, we encourage you to prayerfully consider doing so.  And if you have already committed in to a serving role, THANKS!

We're looking forward to growing together.

Sunday Morning Service
Every Sunday morning there are a multitude of practical tasks which must be completed for all components of the Sunday service to run smoothly and with God-honoring excellence.  There is diversity in these tasks with no specific experience required.  In fact, there is only one overriding requirement: the heart of a servant.  Most of these tasks involve helping as part of a team.  Here are a few examples of the needs:
     -  Greeters - Welcome people home to Central
Ushers - Service communion, collect offering, seat guests
Fellowship - Set up, clean up and direct fellowship time
Communion - Prepare elements for Sunday morning worship
     -  Nursery - Love and nurture infants and toddlers
     -  Pre-K - Love pre-school children into a relationship with Jesus
     -  Administrator - Oversee Sunday morning ministry areas

Communication
It's been said that you can never over communicate.  That's an assumption we're using as we request assistance from members to help us communicate effectively throughout the body, intra-community and inter-community.  This includes written, verbal and visual communication which is consistent and reinforces the vision and mission of Central Christian Church.  Most roles will function within the context of a team, such as a copywriter working with a graphic artist on a specific project.  Additional roles will surface as the area of communication is being effectively addressed.  Here are a few examples of current needs:
     -  Copywriters - Draft articles, news releases, poster/sign copy, etc.
     -  Graphic Artist - Provide creative services to enhance written communication pieces
     -  Interviewers & Reporters - Capture relevant member stories
     -  Scrapbookers - Create visuals to enhance the stories being told (i.e. the Banja Luka shadow
        boxes in the Narthex
     -  Designers & Decorators - recommend display options for communication pieces, such
as signage, posters, bulletin boards, etc.

Events
Church and community get-togethers are more than just fellowship events.  They can be held for purposes such as celebration, revival, service, teaching and discipleship just to name a few.  Done well, events reflect the joy we have as believers of Christ.  Every event is viewed as a team effort, with the Event Planner taking a key role to recruit for specific functions.  Some of the event functions are:
     -  Event Planners - Design and create events to achieve specific purposes; recruit team
members to implement specific events.  Elements of a team are:
            -  Food & Beverage - menu selection, preparation, serving
            -  Venue Selection
            -  Promotion - within community, all-church, and/or neighborhood community
            -  Decorating & Set-up
            -  Music and/or Entertainment
